The aim of the Trust is to bring the positive benefits of salsa dance into people's lives. In particular, it reaches out to a wide range of disadvantaged communities and those who are unlikely or unable to access salsa dance classes.
This aim is achieved via workshops and performance courses, developing both the physical and psychological wellbeing of the students. Through the charity's work, the positive influence of Lee Wright continues to benefit people of all dance levels and abilities.
The Trust is unique in that it raises funds within the SALSA community to put back into SALSA-related projects.
The initial funds for Lee’s Trust were raised in January 2009 at Lee’s Tribute, a fundraising event in central London which brought together the entire UK salsa community to celebrate the life of Lee Wright, the UK salsa dance champion, who died at the age of 24 as a passenger in a car accident.
The specific objective of the Trust is to advance the education of the public in salsa dancing and to promote and commemorate the positive influence of Lee Wright's attitude to dance and learning.
